What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy that helps you to make positive changes in your life by using the power of the sub-conscious mind.
What is Hypnosis?
It's useful to think of hypnosis as your conscious mind being completely focused on just one thing. In a therapy environment, this would normally be the therapist's voice enabling the sub-conscious mind (the root of all memories and emotions) to be addressed directly.
Is Hypnotherapy dangerous?
Absolutely not. We all experience hypnotic states from time to time. This could for example involve us drifting off to sleep and our mind beginning to wander. Daydreaming is often a similar, trance-like state. Hypnotherapy makes uses of these trance-like states to bring about positive change for the person concerned.
Will I lose control?
Hypnosis will make you relaxed and comfortable. You will have an enhanced sense of yourself and what you are doing. In just the same way that you remain in control whilst watching a film, you will always remain in control when listening to a hypnotherapy recording.
What if I don't come out of hypnosis?
This is just not possible. Remember, you remain in control. You will simply return to your normal state of consciousness feeling refreshed and with a great sense of achievement. Just occasionally if you listen to a recording in the evening you may drift off to sleep if already tired.
Will I be forced to do things against my will?
No! Your sub-conscious mind will always be looking after your best interests. A suggestion that was harmful to you would be rejected and you would very likely come out of hypnosis. These recordings contain positive life affirming suggestions designed to make your life so much better.
Will I be asleep whilst using a hypnosis recording?
No, you will be aware of what is happening, although people are often very relaxed with their attention directed inwards. One helpful definition of hypnosis is "complete concentration on a single thought". You can open your eyes at any time during a session if you want to. Most people say they feel very relaxed at the end of a session.
How long does it take?
A typical audio track lasts around 30 minutes. Most recordings have more than one track to address the issue in as complete a way as possible. Listening to the recording regularly will help to resolve the issue or make improvements in the most effective way.
Is listening to a recording different to seeing a hypnotherapist?
Many people find hypnotherapy recordings a very effective way of making positive change in their life. We have a growing range of downloadable products to cover many common areas of difficulty and the repeated use of a recording will reinforce the positive change. Being able to use the recordings wherever and when ever you want can be a great benefit. Sometimes however a personal visit to a hypnotherapist can be helpful to resolve complex or more deep-seated issues.
What makes hypnotherapy different?
Hypnosis allows you to access your sub-conscious mind, the root of your emotions and your behaviour. The sub-conscious cannot normally be accessed directly and this is why it can be so hard to change an unwanted habit or behaviour like giving up cigarettes for example. Other "talking therapies" are carried out in a conscious state sometimes making it much more difficult to achieve a desired change.
What do the medical professions say?
Hypnotherapy is now widely recognised and accepted by the medical profession that has come to understand that the mind and body are closely linked. Many (but sadly not all) Medical Doctors actively support the use of hypnotherapy to achieve change.
